// : Christmas Day Kicks Around the NBA : //

The tradition of the NBA playing on Christmas Day continued this year and as always, brands took full advantage of it to give their select endorsed athletes special Player Exclusives (P.E.’s) for Christmas Day games. With star athletes such as Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, and Chris Bosh out due to injury, many other athletes from various brands carried the torch for fresh Christmas Day kicks.

Nike, Jordan Brand, and adidas all did their respective Christmas pack editions, while other brands such as Under Armour, Li Ning, and Reebok also joined in on the fun.

Nike Basketball went with a darker shade of green and red for their Christmas edition shoes for non signature athletes, as well as a white version with green and red colors included. For their signature collection, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, and Kobe Bryant all got their own exclusive Christmas version of their shoes. adidas Basketball went with the ‘Bad Dreams’ theme for their signature athletes, John Wall, Derrick Rose, as well as the other adidas Basketball members.

Micheal Jordan’s favorite shoe. The year was 1995 and the Jordan XI had just released. After coming back from retirement and a brief minor-league baseball stint, MJ was ready to get back to the court and tear up his opponents. While he was off playing baseball, a lot of people believed that Jordan may have been really done with the game of basketball and not come back. However, one person who didn’t believe a single bit of that nonsense was Jordan’s footwear designer at Nike, Tinker Hatfield. While everyone thought MJ was done and his last shoe from Nike was the Jordan X, Tinker secretly kept working on the Jordan XI just in case Mike did come back to play. With design inspirations coming from a Lawnmower, a Mountaineering Backpack, Convertible Car, and the Denver Airport, Tinker Hatfield knew what he was cooking up. ย The first basketball shoe to feature patent leather, Jordan knew it was special. He even predicted that the shoe would be worn with suits, and what do you know, boy band group Boyz 2 Men wore them at an award shoe and performed with them on in suits. Today, the Jordan XI is a classic, even after almost 20 years. People lose their minds over this shoe every year around Christmas (when Jordan Brand releases a new color way, usually) and it is definitely a shoe any sneaker head would love to have in their collection. Take a look at some of the images and video below showcasing the Air Jordan XI in original form from 1995.
